Yeti! Were? by Celia Kyle

**This blog contains adult activities and discussion of....ahem....adult activities.**

Warning: Spoilers Ahead!!!  This is a recap blog which means I read the book and tell you everything that happens so you don't have to read it yourself.  Do NOT continue to read unless you want to have the story completely and utterly spoiled.

Book DescriptionWhen they met on the night of the midnight moon, both locked in an industrial freezer, neither could predict the ups and downs their lives would take. Sela was faced with the choice of shifting and tearing into the yummy man's hide or simply f**king through the lust frenzy that accompanies the midnight moon. Decisions, decisions... And a freezer was not a good place for a yeti to be. Drastic changes in temperature from hot to cold make Yosi feral... and horny.

Well......okay then.😲  I guess that really sets the tone.

This book was published in 2011 and it's actually a collection of stories about the same characters.  I only read the first one.  This was my first time reading it.

We begin with our protagonist Sela telling us “they” met in an industrial deep freezer. She's a wolf shifter (I know, I know....too tame for us) and she's been locked in the freezer by a fellow werewolf named Ron. Sela says Ron has issues that counseling and massive doses of medication can't solve and when she refused to have sex with him, he threw her in the freezer. She's not too worried. She can easily survive in there – especially since tonight is the full moon and she'll shift.

So apparently the werewolves only shift during the full moon in this world AND they can avoid the shift entirely if they are having sex during it.

She settles in for a long boring weekend, knowing she just has to wait it out until Monday morning when the staff arrives to let her out, but those plans are thwarted when a large man is suddenly shoved in there with her. She tells us he's HUGE in capital letters. Like Incredible Hulk huge but bronzed and not green. Now she knows she's going to have to find a way to get them out of there because, even if he is the size of a mountain, he looks human and no human can survive a deep freezer for an entire weekend. Plus, once she shifts her wolf is going to want to eat him for dinner.

He doesn't notice her right away since his attention is focused on trying to beat down the doors. The metal dents under his massive fists and she's pretty impressed. The man is already showing signs of being cold and she's surprised. She finds it odd that a man his size is so sensitive to the temperature. Her inner wolf starts howling at her. Normally it only clamors for her to snack on humans but this one it wants to.....ahem......climb.

We switch to the man's point of view now. His name is Yosi and he might not be as affected by the cold as Sela thinks. In fact, he tells us that the Georgia heat, even with air conditioning going full blast, is killing him. He went into a bar called The Den not knowing it was a werewolf hangout. Ron approached him, hit on him and when Yosi refused, he and his werewolf friends gave Yosi a bit of a beating. He tells us that he had been sapped by the heat and half the wolves had guns so he wasn't able to properly defend himself. Now, here he is.

The rubbing together of his hands and stomping of his feet that Sela mistook for being cold is actually his attempt to control his own shift. The cold is calling to him and he can feel the itch along his skin. He'll be hairy and....horny....super soon. Sela finally says something and Yosi is shocked to find he isn't alone in the freezer. He assumes she's human and knows he's going to have to get her out of there somehow.

Sela is a plus-sized girl, Yosi tells us and his kind finds that extremely appealing. He thinks she's beautiful and sexy. He tells her that they need to get out of there. And fast. He can feel the threads in his clothes starting to snap as he begins his shift. She teases him and asks him if he thinks the big bad wolf is going to eat them and he teases back that a yeti just might eat her – but she'll probably enjoy it.

EW. You just met her dude. Control yourself.

You don't even know her damn name yet.

We shift back into Sela's head. She's confused at first because there's not a Yeti anywhere near them. Then she notices that he's growing and she realizes he's the Yeti. She's terrified. Cold makes Yeti's go primal and they have no real love for the wolf population as a whole.  She's afraid she's about to be eaten for real and not in a way she'd enjoy. She asks him if he likes to play with his food or if he'll kill her quick and easy. He seems offended by the question as he undresses in an effort to save his clothes. She's very impressed by the size of his....ahem....Bigfoot if you know what I mean. It makes her wolf howl even louder.

He's losing the ability to speak in sentences as he shifts but he manages to tell her that he doesn't want to kill her. He wants to....ahem.....make the beast with two backs with her if you know what I mean. ((I managed to get a Shakespeare reference in here. Boo-yeah!  See, I'm classy.  Ish.)) Sela is good with this plan because it will help her control her own shift. He also indicates that he wants to chase her before he mates her and Sela likes the sound of that very much. Her wolf approves.

Yosi tells us that the fact he shifted so quickly is the reason he lost the ability to speak like a human. Normally the shift is much slower and he mostly retains his speech. He's hoping it will come back after he...ahem.....releases his snowballs. He tells Sela to run and she does. A chase all around the freezer ensues and I swear the author makes it sound like it's enormous. Yosi is confused at why the little human isn't getting tired. For some reason he can't seem to sense that she's a wolf.

Finally she stops running and gets very naked. He tells her his name before he plunders her at least.

What follows is very lengthy and descriptive. He makes sure she enjoys it. Afterwards, he gathers her up and cuddles her close to his fur in an effort to keep her warm. It's sweet really. They both sleep.

Sela wakes up in the morning and realizes that the release mechanism for the door isn't destroyed as she originally thought. It's just tied up high. She debates how to get to it. She climbs some shelves but is still too short. I'm wondering why she doesn't explain it to her Yeti friend over there. He's HUGE after all. She decides to shift and make a jump for it. Just as she does, she hears Yosi talking in his sleep about “damned werewolves” and she knows he could never love her in her other form.

Sela manages to get the mechanism and open the door just as Yosi wakes up. He's scared that he can't find her. She slips away in wolf form determined to go where no one can find her. Yosi searches the freezer for her but only finds her clothes. When he picks them up, he can smell her werewolf scent. He's surprised but he doesn't feel like it's a deal breaker for him. She's his and he's determined to find her.

He goes back to The Den and I have no idea if he's in human form or Yeti form right now. I think human since he's out of the cold. He demands to speak to the alpha and then demands to know where Sela is. He says Sela is his and the alpha isn't amused that the Yeti is trying to claim one of his pack. Yosi says that the alpha forfeited his right to Sela when he allowed Ron to lock her and Yosi in the freezer. The alpha clearly can't protect Sela but he can.

The alpha thinks about this for a minute and then summons a young wolfling to take Yosi to Sela's home. He says Yosi can have her but only if she agrees to have him.

Suddenly we're with Sela again and she tells us that three months have passed since that night in the freezer. I guess Yosi didn't find her. She's been living in a cabin in the woods and she's made friends with the local Yetis – especially a female named Ysai. She's unloading groceries and she hears a heavy footstep behind her. She assumes it's her friend but then arms go around her and deep voice says “Sela, mine” in her ear and she knows it's Yosi.

He kisses her and tells her “no leave again”. She agrees and tells him she missed him. Then he tells her to run and the chase is on. It ends the same way it did in the freezer, with Yosi giving her his....ahem....icicle if you know what I mean. He says “Sela mine” again as they recuperate and she puts her hand on his furry chest and says “Yosi mine”.

Later we learn that Yosi has been searching for her for months and the only reason he finally found her is because Ysai is his sister. That was pretty predictable. They eventually make it into her cabin and she tells him that she needs to get to know him better. After all, they've barely had any conversation at all that didn't consist of him saying "Sela mine".

I don't know if she gets to know him or not because suddenly it's two years later. Sela and Yosi return to the cabin every year on their anniversary to have a little chase and mate through the snow. The book ends with them saying “mine” to each other again.  I'm pretty sure that's the only dialogue Kyle knows how to write.

Eventually I might read the next installment.  I'll probably slip another cow in there first though.
